Ruling on the use of papers bearing the name of Allah
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
This is a message from our brother Muhammad Hamad Abd al-Baqi from the Arab Republic of Egypt, from Fayyum. Our brother Muhammad Hamad is zealous, may Allah reward him with good. He sent us a question in which he says: What is the sin committed by sellers of sweets and children’s toys who sell or wrap their merchandise in paper bearing the words of Allah (Mighty and Majestic) or words of religious knowledge? And he attached, may Allah reward him with good, a sheet containing a verse from the noble Book of Allah and its interpretation. He asks: What is the sin that falls upon them, and will you not advise them?
Answer: The sin falls upon the one who uses newspapers and papers containing the mention of Allah or verses from the Qur’an, whether he uses them to wrap food, or to wrap other items, or to make them into a tablecloth over which food is placed. All of this is reprehensible and not permissible. We have drawn attention to this many times in the local newspapers and elsewhere.
It is obligatory for every Muslim to be cautious of this matter, and to have such respect for the Book of Allah and the names of Allah as would deter him from this action, such as newspapers and other papers containing Qur’anic verses or the mention of Allah, or the salutations upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), or any of the names of Allah. It is obligatory that he not use them as wrapping or as a tablecloth or anything else that humiliates them. However, if he removes the names of Allah from them, or cuts out the parts containing the names of Allah so that nothing remains containing the names of Allah or verses, then there is no harm. Yes.
The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
