Regarding the ruling on singing and playing the hand drum at women's celebrations; is there an explicit prohibition?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Is there any other need?

The questioner : Regarding the singing of some women.

The Shaykh: Yes.

The questioner : Is there any obstacle to ...?

The Shaykh : No, it is not necessary—may Allah reward you—that there be an explicit prohibition. What concerns us is that it be the custom of the Muslims that they have followed in the era of the Salaf.

The questioner : Well, our Shaykh ... there are no slave girls, what about ... for the women.

The Shaykh : Yes, there are slave girls, young girls.

The questioner : Yes?

The Shaykh : Young girls who have not reached the age of legal accountability; this is addressed from this perspective, meaning.

The questioner : Yes, but you know, there is ... and no contradiction in the act of obedience itself. All the women are in one place, and there is no such fear, meaning, for the woman herself.

The Shaykh : In any case, the matter is extremely delicate from one side, and from another side, it is feared that it will open doors for us that we would then have to prohibit in this society that has settled over all Islamic societies. As you know, evil does not proceed except slowly, so we see that we should restrict it to young girls. And all good, as you know, is in following those who came before, and all evil is in the innovation of those who came after.

The questioner : Good, if Allah wills.

The Shaykh : May Allah reward you, I hope so, if Allah wills.
