Ruling on Women Attending Celebrations That Include Singing

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh! Some sisters ask, saying: We attend some wedding parties, and when the drums and singing begin, we go outside the courtyard of the wedding palace so that we do not hear the singing. What is the ruling on this? And is the conscience cleared if we distribute some beneficial tapes and booklets?

First: We must know that singing with the hand drum on wedding nights is among the matters that are sought, but with the hand drum, not the drum; the hand drum that has only one side. This is what the Sunnah brought, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded it. It is not to be denied, nor is one to be prevented from the place where it is. But if there is music or drums, then it is necessary to deny it first. If they refuse, then it is obligatory to leave the place. Then it is better to leave even the palace if possible, so that we boycott those who persisted in their disobedience. And if the invited woman knows that this will happen, she should not go at all. But sometimes she does not know until she has fallen into this.
Distributing beneficial booklets or beneficial tapes is very good, and one should continue with it, if Allah wills. It is required in the same place. I have seen some people take the invitation card and put a booklet or a tape in it.
