What is the ruling on describing Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He) with a place?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : If saying "not in a place" is incorrect, does that mean Allah is in a place?

The Shaykh : No, we have mentioned repeatedly that place is an existential thing.
Allah was, and there was nothing with Him. كان الله ولا شيء معه
, then He created this universe. Allah was not in it, so from this perspective, He remains as He was, not in a place. However, as He explicitly stated in the Qur'an:
above the Throne established. عَلَى الْعَرْشِ اسْتَوَى
[Taha 20:5]
.
The Shaykh: And just as I was two or three years ago in the days of Mina in Makkah, I debated one of the scholars of al-Azhar, a group of the Khattabiyyah al-Sabikah, on this issue. He, of course, does not affirm the attribute of elevation for Allah, and his Shaykh has a book that we could describe as denying the elevation of Allah above His creation. He named it "Ith'af al-Ka'inat." I completely forgot what its name is.

The questioner : ... .

The Shaykh : So, in summary, I said to him: Is place an existential or a non-existent thing? He said: Existential. I said: Good, I agree with you on that. Then I said: Is the created thing, in its being created, finite and limited, or infinite? He said: Finite. I said: If the universe is finite, is there any place left? He said: No. I said: By Allah, He is above this universe; therefore, He is not in a place.

The questioner : So, is the phrase "not in a place" correct?

The Shaykh : Yes, but they mean "not in a direction," and by "not in a direction" they mean not above.

The questioner : No, direction is acceptable, but "not in a place" might be correct.

The Shaykh : Of course, but we must understand their intention. That is, when we say now: Allah is above the Throne
They fear their Lord above them يَخَافُونَ رَبَّهُمْ مِنْ فَوْقِهِم
[An-Nahl 16:50]
, this is among the attributes of His creation—(Blessed and Exalted is He).

The questioner : He said: Place is created.

The Shaykh : Yes, so when we say "above," they do not say "above." Why? Because they interpret "above" as place. Therefore, when you hear that He is not above and not in a direction, do not think that they are truthful when they say "not in a direction." Because they do not mean by "direction" the meaning we intend; rather, they mean the negation of elevation, which is truly not a direction, because it is a non-existent thing with respect to the universe, as I explained earlier.

The questioner : What did he answer you?

The Shaykh : A very long discussion. Of course, the truth prevailed over falsehood. I will not tell you that the Shaykh admitted it, but he surrendered, and there was a mutual agreement between us. We agreed to go visit him in his tent the next day of the festival, and we did so. But, unfortunately, we did not meet with him. The entire discussion was recorded, and the Iraqi took a copy of it.

The questioner : Fawzi...

The Shaykh : Fawzi, and they took copies of it to Egypt, the supporters of the Sunnah... and others.

The questioner : We sent it to them.

Eid Abbasi : I made a copy; I had a copy of it.

The questioner : Do you have a copy of it?

Eid Abbasi : Yes.

The questioner : Will you give it to me?
