What is the authenticity of the hadith regarding the Abdal? And what is the meaning of the Abdal?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : What is the grade of the hadith regarding the Abdal in terms of authenticity?

The Shaykh : The hadiths regarding the Abdal are numerous, and unfortunately, al-Hafiz al-Suyuti compiled a treatise on them, and none of these hadiths is authentic in the slightest. They vary between weak, very weak, and fabricated, and they are the most contradictory in terms of number and description. However, there is a point of precision here: we observe that when our imams, the hadith scholars and memorizers among them, write biographies for some of the narrators of hadith, they say at the end of the biography: "And he was among the Abdal." This leads us to take from the collection of hadiths, despite their contradiction, that they all converge on establishing the term "badal" and "Abdal." So we can say: there are Abdal, but without adding to that descriptions and numbers; because they were not established in the hadiths mentioned earlier.

The questioner : What is meant by the Abdal, O Shaykh?

The Shaykh : It means, as the common people say: "The world is never devoid of them," and this meaning is taken from two hadiths: one authentic hadith and one hadith with no basis. The authentic hadith is:
A group of people from my Umma will continue to fight In defence of truth لا تزال طائفة من أمتي ظاهرة على الحق
Sahih Muslim 1923
, and the hadith with no basis is:
The good is in me and in my Ummah until the Day of Resurrectionالخير فيَّ وفي أمَّتي إلى يوم القيامة
; so this has no basis.
