That is more suitable that they will be known and not be abused ذلِكَ أَدنى أَن يُعرَفنَ فَلا يُؤذَينَ
[Al-Ahzab 33:59]


The Shaykh : This is the explanation for what came before, where Allah the Exalted said:
O Prophet, tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to bring down over themselves [part] of their outer garments. That is more suitable that they will be known and not be abused يا أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ قُل لِأَزواجِكَ وَبَناتِكَ وَنِساءِ المُؤمِنينَ يُدنينَ عَلَيهِنَّ مِن جَلابيبِهِنَّ ذلِكَ أَدنى أَن يُعرَفنَ فَلا يُؤذَينَ
[Al-Ahzab 33:59]
meaning that if they draw their outer garments over them, it will be known that they are free women, and no one will harm them, unlike slave women, for a slave woman might be exposed to harm by someone. Yes.
