What is the ruling on the person who says: "I rely on you and on Allah," and the like?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : There are many things of this type as well, but I do not know if you use such expressions. Perhaps because the countries are close to one another, and I am not yet accustomed to the Jordanian dialect here. In our country, when one entrusts a person with a task and then they separate, one says to him: "You see, I have no one but Allah and you," "I have no one but Allah and you." Do you have such an expression?

The questioner : ... "We rely on Allah and on you."

The Shaykh : Ah, that too...

The questioner : "We rely on Allah and on you."

Another questioner : ... .

The Shaykh : Yes, all of this is of the type of shirk (associating partners with Allah). It came in the authentic hadith that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) addressed the Companions one day, and a man from among the Companions stood up and said: "What Allah wills and what you will, O Messenger of Allah." He said:
Have you made me a rival to Allah?! Say: What Allah alone wills
As-Sunan al-Kubra lil-Nasa'i 64:1386
. But I am not surprised that today we say: "What Allah wills and what so-and-so wills," and we do not say: "What Allah alone wills," or as in the other narration, he says:
What Allah wills and so and so wills
Sunan Abi Dawud 4980Sahih (Al-Albani)
, not "What Allah wills and then so-and-so wills"; because we are Arabs in name but non-Arabs in action. We no longer know our original Arabic language; we have forgotten it. Who among the common people distinguishes between "What Allah wills and so-and-so" and "What Allah wills and then so-and-so"? And the "and" implies a second rank... the conjunction "and" is for absolute combination; therefore the Messenger (peace be upon him) rebuked that man when he said to him: "O Messenger of Allah, what Allah wills and what you will." He said:
Have you made me an equal to Allah?! Say: What Allah wills alone.
As-Sunan al-Kubra lil-Nasa'i 64:1386
. And the other narration is:
What Allah wills and then what you will.
Sunan Ibn Majah 2117Hasan (Darussalam)
.
In another strange hadith, a man from among his Companions came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah, I saw last night in a dream that while I was walking on one of the roads of Madinah, I met a man from the Jews. I said to him: 'O so-and-so, you are a good people, O Jews, were it not that you associate partners with Allah and say: "Azir is the son of Allah."' The Companion said: 'So he said to me in the dream: "And you are a good people, O Muslims, were it not that you associate partners with Allah and say: "What Allah wills and what Muhammad wills."' Then he continued on his way and met a man from the Christians, and he said to him: 'You are a good people, O Christians, were it not that you associate partners with Allah and say: "Jesus is the son of Allah."' So the Christian said to him: 'And you are a good people, O Muslims, were it not that you associate partners with Allah and say: "What Allah wills and what Muhammad wills."' This was the vision. He said to him: 'Have you related it to anyone?' He said: 'No.' So the Messenger (peace be upon him) ascended the pulpit and gathered the Companions, and said:
I used to hear from you a word that you used to say, and I would be shy of you, so let none of you say: What Allah wills and what Muhammad wills, but let him say: What Allah alone wills
. All these things, O our brothers, fall under neither shirk of lordship nor shirk of worship; rather, it is shirk of attributes. Why? Usually, by nature, a person swears by something trivial... or by something noble? Without doubt, by something noble. It is supposed that the most noble and greatest thing for a Muslim is Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He). So when he turns away from swearing by Him and seeking His help to swearing by a servant of Allah, whether it is his father, his grandfather, his shaykh, his teacher, and so on, it means he has exalted this created being over the Creator, so he has associated in the attribute. These are subtleties related to the knowledge of tawhid (the oneness of Allah), and most people are heedless!
Therefore, the scholars of the Muslims, without exception, agree that the prophets and messengers, the first thing they were sent with was
Worship Allah and avoid Taghut
[An-Nahl 16:36]
, this is a verse in the Qur'an that you all know,
Worship Allah and avoid Taghut
[An-Nahl 16:36]
. It is very, very rare that our Lord (Mighty and Majestic) addresses the topic of affirming the Lord as Creator; because people, by their fitrah (innate natural disposition), believe in it. Therefore, you will not find all the people of the earth like the polytheists who believe in a Creator, but they associate in some of the types of shirk we mentioned earlier. Therefore, the Qur'an very rarely addresses the topic of affirming His existence and His being the Creator, but it very, very often addresses the aspect of tawhid al-uluhiyyah (oneness of worship); like the previous verse:
Worship Allah and avoid Taghut
[An-Nahl 16:36]
. Taghut is everything worshipped besides Allah, and acts of worship are of many, many types.
... We will suffice for now, because I feel that drowsiness has begun to tease some of the eyelids; therefore, whoever wants to ask me.

The questioner: A moment, Professor, one last question if you permit?

The Shaykh: It is known that you, Abu 'Ubaydah, came at the end...
