What is the manner of placing the hand in prayer?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : In the name of Allah, and all praise is due to Allah, and may the prayer and peace be upon the Messenger of Allah. Here are some questions we pose to our Shaykh. The Shaykh : Muhammad Nasir al-Albani (may Allah preserve him), on the Friday corresponding to the eighteenth of the month of Muharram in the year 1416 of the Hijri calendar, may the prayer and best peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). The first question: I read in one of your books and articles that among the innovations of Friday are rhyming in the Friday sermon, and the tripling, quadrupling, and quintupling in it. What is meant by tripling, quadrupling, and quintupling?

The Shaykh : I do not have the answer to this question at the moment, and this can be read at the end of the treatise *Al-Ajwibat al-Nafi'ah* (The Beneficial Answers).

The questioner : Yes, may Allah bless you. I want the practical or theoretical explanation of how to place the right hand over the left hand in prayer?

The Shaykh : Theoretical or practical?

The questioner : The practical application.

The Shaykh : There are two positions: placing and grasping, meaning two forms.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : One is given the choice between grasping or placing, and one does not combine them, for there is a description that has not come in the Sunnah. It is known that the placing is like this, and it has no specific manner, for example, it is not said that one spreads his fingers or closes them, but rather he places them as it happens. As for the grasping, it is like this.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : This is the grasping. And without a doubt, it should be noted that the placing should be the palm over the palm, and the forearm and the upper arm, so it should not be like this, palm over palm, because the hadith of placing the palm over the palm is from the hadiths of Sunan Abu Dawud from Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) with a chain containing an unknown narrator. So placing the palm over the palm is not authentic. What is authentic is placing on the forearm and the upper arm. And as I mentioned first, either one places or one grasps.

The questioner : May Allah reward you.
