The questioner : And this is also a statement by Ibn al-Qayyim that indicates what preceded from the words of His Eminence,The Shaykh : the scholar Muhammad ibn Ibrahim (may Allah have mercy on him). Ibn al-Qayyim says, "Al-Hajjaj ibn 'Ulayt asked him (peace and blessings be upon him), saying, 'I have wealth in Makkah and I have family there, and I intend to go to them. Am I free from blame if I take something from you or say something?' So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) permitted him to say whatever he wished." Ahmad mentioned it, and its chain of narration is from your book, O Shaykh. "And in it is evidence that if a speaker does not intend the meaning of his words, either because he did not intend it or because he did not know it, or because he intended a meaning other than its meaning, then he is not bound by what he did not intend with his words... "

The Shaykh : Allahu Akbar.

The questioner : "And this is the religion of Allah by which He sent His Messenger. For this reason, the one who is coerced to speak words of disbelief is not bound by disbelief, and the one whose intellect is removed by madness, sleep, or intoxication is not bound by what he spoke, and al-Hajjaj ibn 'Ulayt was not bound by the ruling of what he spoke... "

The Shaykh : What Allah willed.

The questioner : "And al-Hajjaj ibn 'Ulayt was not bound by the ruling of what he spoke because he intended a meaning other than its meaning and his heart did not affirm it. And Allah the Exalted said:
Allah will not impose blame upon you for what is meaningless in your oaths, but He will impose blame upon you for [breaking] what you intended of oathsلَا يُؤَاخِذُكُمُ اللَّهُ بِاللَّغْوِ فِي أَيْمَانِكُمْ وَلَكِنْ يُؤَاخِذُكُمْ بِمَا عَقَّدْتُمُ الْأَيْمَانَ
[Al-Ma'idah 5:89]
And in the other verse:
but He imposes blame upon you for what your hearts have earnedوَلَكِنْ يُؤَاخِذُكُمْ بِمَا كَسَبَتْ قُلُوبُكُمْ
[Al-Baqarah 2:225]
So the rulings in this world and the Hereafter are based on what the heart acquires, affirms, and intends from the meaning of its words... "

The Shaykh : This is the truth, if Allah wills.

The questioner : Page 403, Volume 4 of I'lam al-Muwaqqi'in.

The Shaykh : May Allah grant you well-being and may Allah reward you with good. The words of the scholars, O my master, apply to the saying, "The best of speech is what enters the ear without permission." May Allah reward you with good.
