The Shaykh’s remarks on how to reconcile the hadith (It was made lawful for us two carrion and two bloods…) with the verse (Forbidden to you is the carrion and the blood…).

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : There is a hadith in which the Messenger of Allah was asked about performing wudu with seawater, and he said:
Its water is pure and its carrion is lawful
How do you reconcile the verse:
Prohibited to you are dead animals
[Al-Ma'idah 5:3]
with the hadith:
Its carrion is lawful
It is a general and a specific, a general and a specific. The verse is general and includes all carrion, while the hadith excludes fish, the carrion of the sea, from this generality.
Likewise, regarding the blood in the verse:
Prohibited to you are dead animals, blood
[Al-Ma'idah 5:3]
, it came in the hadith:
It was made lawful for us two carrion and two bloods: the fish and the locust, and the liver and the spleen
This is a rule: specifying the general with a specific text. It is applied in answering regarding the two hadiths. The first hadith is a general hadith about praying at the beginning of its time. The hadith:
It was narrated that Abu Hurairah said: "The Messenger of Allah said: 'Were it not that it would be too difficult for my Ummah, I would have delayed the 'Isha' prayer until one third or one half of the night had passed.'"
Sunan Ibn Majah 691Sahih (Darussalam)
This means that the first hadith is not to be taken in its generality such that it also includes the Isha prayer. No, the Isha prayer is the opposite of the other five prayers. The later the one who prays delays it, the better it is for him. But here, this preference should not be missed by the one who is eager for it, because the virtue of congregational prayer is more important than the virtue of delaying the Isha prayer. In other words, if the matter is between praying the Isha prayer with the congregation at the beginning of the time and praying alone at the end of the time, we say: Do not pray with the congregation at the beginning of the time, and do not delay the Isha prayer to the end of the time. Because he is between two things: either he loses the obligatory in the way of the voluntary, and what is the voluntary? It is delaying the Isha prayer. It is not obligatory, but it is a recommended matter. So he is between two things: either he loses the obligatory in the way of preserving the recommended, which is delaying the time, or he loses this recommended, which is delaying the time, and preserves the obligatory, which is praying with the Muslim congregation.
