The Shaykh : …the means that prevents the smile and the glance; because, as I believe, you know the saying of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him): meaning the touch . From this hadith, the Egyptian poet Shawqi in his time took inspiration and said:
“A glance, then a smile, then a greeting, then conversation, then an appointment, then a meeting.”
Therefore, as you are responsible, you must not be the cause of a smile or a glance occurring in your place; otherwise, you will be responsible for it, just as if you had done it yourself. Because you are the guardian, and in my opinion, as long as there is no physical mixing between the young men and young women, as you say and you are truthful, as long as there is no such mixing, you can put up a barrier. In that case, the preliminary steps that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) indicated in the hadith, which the Egyptian poet quoted, are cut off. After that, if something happens outside your place, you are not responsible for it, just as we are not responsible for all the harms that occur. But in your place, you must keep it free from any of the causes that lead to the major sin.
It is written for every son of Adam his share of zina, and it will inevitably befall him. The eye commits zina, and its zina is looking; the ear commits zina, and its zina is listening; the hand commits zina, and its zina is grasping
كتب على ابن آدم حظه من الزنا فهو مدركه لا محالة ، فالعين تزني وزناها النظر , والأذن تزني وزناها السمع ، واليد تزني وزناها البطشthe foot commits zina, and its zina is walking; and the private parts either confirm all of this or deny it
والرجل تزني وزناها المشي ، والفرج يصدق ذلك كله أو يكذبه“A glance, then a smile, then a greeting, then conversation, then an appointment, then a meeting.”
Therefore, as you are responsible, you must not be the cause of a smile or a glance occurring in your place; otherwise, you will be responsible for it, just as if you had done it yourself.
