In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
Praise be to Allah, and may peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah. As for what follows, this is one of the tapes from the Hidayah wa al-Nur series of scholarly lessons and legal rulings by our Shaykh, Muhammad Nasir al-Din al-Albani - may Allah preserve him - . We ask Allah to benefit everyone with it. And now, with tape number one hundred and sixty-eight.
The Shaykh : So, may Allah have mercy on him, when he saw the youth turning to the da'wah, and there is no doubt that he felt that there is great good in the da'wah, and that there is evil in it in his opinion, for example, that it differs from the madhhab in some issues, but he knew that the good predominates over the evil, so he began to frequent my shop.
Al-Halabi : After all of this?
The Shaykh : Yes, but he also did not dare to enter the shop. We are telling this for history, for reality, but it was different from before. And naturally, I used to visit him in his house, and I witnessed his illness and his death. And this was a favor from Allah upon me, because I was traveling, as was my custom, on my monthly trip to Aleppo. So I came and found him ill. Two or three days, and by Allah, he took his trust (died) and we took charge of it, and we prayed for him according to the Sunnah.
Al-Halabi : Praise be to Allah.
The Shaykh : According to the Sunnah, and this is, of course, contrary to the practice of the majority. There is a mosque there which they claim is the mosque of 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Bakr al-Siddiq, on a main street, Baghdad Street. They generally prevent people from praying the funeral prayer in the mosque. The Hanafi madhhab dislikes that, and we see that the Sunnah is to pray outside the mosque, but it is permissible in the mosque. So we prayed for him outside the mosque. The Arnauts all take off their sandals and step on them. I did not take mine off and I prayed in my sandals. And I explained to them on many occasions, "O people, if you are taking off your sandals for fear that there is impurity in them, why are you stepping on them? What is the difference between taking them off and stepping on them, and leaving them as they are? If it is absolutely necessary, clean them and put them aside, and pray with your feet on the ground." I prayed and according to the Sunnah, and thus we sent off the father according to the Sunnah. So I say that in the last of his life, he used to frequent me and say to me, when we would get into some discussions, "I do not deny that I benefited from you." So I began my speech by saying that I felt this at the start of his life; because he used to visit the mosques, the ones I used to visit with him when I was young, the mosques built over graves. He stopped, praise be to Allah, from frequenting them. So I praised Allah that he died in a state of satisfaction, and praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds.
