Ali Hasan al-Halabi’s reading to the Shaykh of some of Muhammad al-Ghazali’s errors.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Al-Halabi : He says: I remember when I was a teacher, I sat down bored, bored with boredom.

The Shaykh : I mean, I was tired of it.

The questioner : ... something, and I turned on the radio, and it pleased me that there was a song I liked. I hardly got through the verses and melodies when the door was knocked on by Ashraf, who came to submit his thesis. I thought I could listen while he was there, but he insisted that I turn off the radio. I saw it as a courtesy to him to grant his wish, so I finished some of the song’s lyrics alone: "Wherever darkness is called, O companion of the night, where? If the light of Allah is in my heart, that is what I see." Then he exclaimed:The student : What is this? I told him, everyone sings of their beloved among people; I mean something else. He said, Do you not know that singing is entirely forbidden? I told him, I did not know that. Then I turned to him seriously and said to him, Islam is not a regional religion for you alone. You have a narrow, Bedouin jurisprudence, and when you put it on the same scale as Islam and say this deal cannot be separated from the other, the scale of Islam will tip over and people will turn away from it...

The Shaykh : I seek refuge in Allah.
Al-Halabi : He likes Umm Kulthum’s songs and says that one must listen to Umm Kulthum and Fairuz.

The Shaykh : What Allah willed.
Al-Halabi : The people of the velvet voice.

Another questioner : By Allah, this is what Allah willed. The Shaykh : Muhammad al-Ghazali’s book, *The Prophetic Sunnah Between the People of Hadith*, contains very strange statements, unfortunately.
