Friday sermon by Shaykh Ali Hasan al-Halabi.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The adhan is being called.
Al-Halabi : ... Praise is to Allah; we praise Him, seek His help, and seek His forgiveness, and we seek refuge in Allah from the evils of our souls and the badness of our deeds. Whomsoever Allah guides, none can mislead, and whomsoever He leaves to mislead, none can guide. And I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone, with no partner, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and His Messenger. As for what follows, the truest of speech is the Book of Allah the Exalted, and the best of guidance is the guidance of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). The worst of matters are their innovations, and every innovation is a religious innovation (bid'ah), and every religious innovation is misguidance, and every misguidance is in the Fire. As for what follows, our Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, in what is authentic from him:
Three qualities, whoever possesses them will find the sweetness of faith: that a person loves not for anyone’s sake except for the sake of Allah, and that Allah and His Messenger should be more beloved to him than all else, and that he hates to return to disbelief after Allah has saved him from it, just as he hates to be thrown into the Fire of Hell.
. This Prophetic hadith, with its few words, contains great meanings that all Muslims should reflect upon, that their hearts should grasp, that their minds should understand, and that it should settle in their depths and in their hearts that this hadith gives the ummah (the Muslim community) its dignity, and clarifies for the Muslim his honor and the glory that Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) has given him by his adherence to the Book of his Lord and the Sunnah of his Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): that Allah and His Messenger should be more beloved to him than all else. This love is not merely words spoken, or phrases repeated, or wishes that one of us hopes for, but it is a practical reality and a life conduct, walked by our limbs and spoken by our hearts, minds, souls, hands, and feet. That Allah and His Messenger should be more beloved to him than all else, in accordance with what Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He) said in the clear verses of His Book:
But no, by your Lord, they will not [truly] believe until they make you, [O Muhammad], judge concerning that over which they dispute among themselves and then find within themselves no discomfort from what you have judged and submit in [full, willing] submission.
[An-Nisa 4:65]
. That Allah and His Messenger should be more beloved to him than all else, is an absolute submission that springs from the heart and reflects upon the limbs, a submission of the heart containing satisfaction, tranquility, and sincerity to Allah (Mighty and Majestic), as Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He) also said in His Noble Book, clarifying that the sign of loving Allah and His Messenger is following the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
Say, [O Muhammad], "If you should love Allah, then follow me, [so] Allah will love you قل إن كنتم تحبون الله ، فاتبعوني يحببكم الله
[Ali 'Imran 3:31]
. And also that a person loves not for anyone’s sake except for the sake of Allah. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) clarifies in this sweet, blessed, and noble word that the relationship that should prevail among the entire ummah and among all Muslims is the relationship of faith, the divine relationship that flows from the Book of Allah (Glorified) and the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). It is not a relationship flowing from worldly interests, personal desires, or goals that follow the world and do not pour into the sea of the Hereafter. That a person loves not for anyone’s sake except for the sake of Allah, with a sincere, humble heart that knows the right of himself upon his brother and the right of his brothers upon himself, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said in what Imam Muslim narrated in his Sahih from Tamim al-Dari (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Religion is advice, religion is advice, religion is advice.
. We said: “O Messenger of Allah, for whom?”
for Allah, His Messenger, His Book, the general body of Muslims, and their leaders
. This is an obligation that Allah has made obligatory upon us, O brothers in Allah. Among what clarifies this is what Jarir ibn Abdullah al-Bajili stated in what is authentic from him: “We pledged allegiance to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) to be sincere to every Muslim, and he taught us as much as he was able.” This important obligation does not spring or flow except from hearts filled with love for the sake of Allah and tranquil with the pleasure of Allah (Mighty and Majestic). And as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
The strongest bonds of faith are love for the sake of Allah and hatred for the sake of Allah
Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah 24:135
. And as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Narrated AbuUmamah: The Prophet (ﷺ) said: If anyone loves for Allah's sake, hates for Allah's sake, gives for Allah's sake and withholds for Allah's sake, he will have perfect faith.
Sunan Abi Dawud 4681Sahih (Al-Albani)
. And also his saying (peace and blessings be upon him), in the third part of this blessed, noble, and authentic hadith with us, he said:
and that he should hate to return to disbelief after Allah has saved him from it, just as he hates to be thrown into the Fire of Hell
. Yes, so the Muslim is noble, and the noblest thing in this Muslim is his Islam, which is the religion that Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) sent down upon all the prophets, and sent down the books and sent all the prophets and sent down all the books in order to establish its pillars and firm its foundations. It is the religion by which we all profess faith, in the oneness of Allah and His worship, as the Lord of the Worlds said in His Noble Book:
(56) And I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me. (57) I do not want from them any provision, nor do I want them to feed Me. (58) Indeed, it is Allah who is the [continual] Provider, the firm possessor of strength.
[Adh-Dhariyat 51:56-58]
. And as our Lord (Glorified and Exalted is He) said in His Glorious Book:
And We certainly sent into every nation a messenger, [saying], "Worship Allah and avoid Taghut."
[An-Nahl 16:36]
. This is the religion of which the Muslim is proud and the believer takes pride in belonging to it; it is the religion of Allah that He chose for His servants, that He chose for the jinn and mankind, and He made the seal of His prophets our Messenger Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). We ask Allah the Great to make us and you among those who guide and are guided, who act with truth, and who call to the Book and the Sunnah. Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Responsive. And our final call is that praise is to Allah, Lord of the Worlds...
... Praise is to Allah alone, and blessings and peace be upon the one after whom there is no prophet. As for what follows, it is authentic and established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), may Allah’s blessings and peace be upon him, that he said:
Two things will not be together in a hypocrite: Good manners, and Fiqh in the religion.
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2684Da'if (Darussalam)
. And good conduct, this good conduct, is nothing but adhering to the rulings of Allah and being certain of the pillars of the religion of Allah (Mighty and Majestic), adhering outwardly and inwardly, adorning oneself with the morals of Islam, not that we say words from here and there or hear phrases repeated among us or by others, no, but good conduct is a reality and an action, and it is an application, and as some have described it, if the expression is permitted, it is a moving Qur’an walking among people, commanding them with the rulings and forbidding them from the prohibitions and sins. And his saying (peace be upon him):
and understanding of the religion. Two characteristics do not coexist in a hypocrite: good conduct and understanding of the religion
. And understanding in the religion is a matter that Allah loves and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) loves. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
He upon whom Allah intends to bestow goodness, He confers upon him an insight in religion
Sahih Muslim 1037a
. And when he made a beautiful supplication for the scholar of the ummah, Abdullah ibn Abbas, raising his status and rank with Allah, what did he say? He said:
O Allah, give him understanding in the religion and teach him interpretation
Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah 29:588
. I ask Allah the Great, Lord of the Mighty Throne, to make us and you among those with good conduct pulsing from the Book of Allah and the authentic Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and to give us understanding in our religion, and to make the best of our deeds their endings. Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Responsive. And establish the prayer.

The questioner : Now, regarding the presence of loudspeakers on the minarets in mosques, they raise the voice so that even if the mosque is far away, the Muslim person hears the adhan (the call to prayer). How can we estimate the response to the adhan and going to the mosque by distance so that we pray in the mosque?

The Shaykh : You estimate it by hearing the natural voice without a device. Is the answer clear?

The questioner : ... We did not hear the answer.

Another questioner : I heard the question.

The Shaykh : Repeat it for him.
Al-Halabi : He saysThe Shaykh : The estimation of this matter is by the natural voice; you estimate how far the natural voice is heard and you respond...

The Shaykh: And upon you peace.
