Is it permissible to give a photograph to a specific newspaper to publish it in order to participate in a Qur'an memorization competition?

The questioner : And is it permissible to publish the photograph in daily newspapers?

The Shaykh : I mean, do you think that those who print the newspapers will permit it and forbid it, so you ask whether it is permissible or not?

The questioner : We are not calling them, but we are asking for ourselves.

The Shaykh : You say "publish," do you mean is it permissible to buy the newspapers?

The questioner : No, I mean buying the newspaper. I mean that in a specific competition, let it be memorizing the Noble Qur'an, they asked me for a photograph to publish in the official newspaper because I succeeded in this competition; so is it permissible to publish the photograph?

The Shaykh : If you mean, is it permissible to give them a photograph of you to publish?

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : Where is your question and where is the reality of your matter? It is not permissible, it is not permissible.

The questioner : It is not permissible?

The Shaykh: Yes.

The questioner: May Allah reward you with good.

The Shaykh : And when you succeed, what do you mean by success? Do you mean the abode of this world or the Hereafter?

The questioner : The Hereafter, of course.

The Shaykh : If Allah wills, and peace be upon you.
