The Categories of the Forbidden

The Shaykh : I say that it is known to anyone who possesses even a little of correct Islamic culture that what Allah (Mighty and Majestic) has forbidden is divided into two categories. The first category is that which is forbidden in itself due to the harm inherent in that forbidden thing. The other category is that which is forbidden for the sake of something else; the second category is that which is forbidden not in itself, but because it leads to that which is forbidden in itself. This division is established in the evidence or in the texts of the Book and the Sunnah, and there is no dispute among the scholars regarding this. When you know this reality, the answer to that question becomes clear.
