Is it permissible for one who is unable to perform the sacrifice for his children to intend the sacrifice for a newborn with the 'Id sacrifice?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Please go ahead.

The questioner : The question of a person who was not able to perform the sacrifice for his children, whether male or female, and then the festival of sacrifice came and he sacrificed the 'Id sacrifice and combined the intention of the sacrifice for a newborn with the 'Id sacrifice. Is that permissible? May Allah reward you with good.

The Shaykh : If I were to answer you briefly, the answer is that it is not permissible. The details vary according to the opinions of the scholars. Whoever holds that the sacrifice for a newborn is a recommended practice and the 'Id sacrifice is a recommended practice, then according to the details we mentioned regarding fasting six days of Shawwal, if he sacrifices and intends the sacrifice for a newborn, he is credited with the reward of the 'Id sacrifice plus the intention of the sacrifice for a newborn. This is for the one who holds that both the 'Id sacrifice and the sacrifice for a newborn are recommended practices. As for the one who holds, as I do, that both the 'Id sacrifice and the sacrifice for a newborn are obligatory, then one obligatory act does not suffice for another obligatory act. It is necessary for him to perform the sacrifice for a newborn and it is necessary for him to perform the 'Id sacrifice. This is sufficient, and praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds.

The questioner : May Allah give you health.
