Is it permissible for seven men to share a camel for the 'aqiqah, by analogy with the 'udhiyah?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : He says: Is it permissible for seven men to share a camel, but not for the 'udhiyah, rather for the 'aqiqah, by analogy with the 'udhiyah?

The Shaykh : Yes. Sharing in a cow or a camel for the 'aqiqah is not valid, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned regarding 'aqiqahs that it is one sheep for a boy and two sheep for a girl. Therefore, a complete animal is required. If a group shares in a camel, each of them has not provided a complete animal, but rather a part of an animal. For this reason, the scholars said: "Sharing in a camel or a cow is not sufficient for the 'aqiqah". In fact, they said: "A sheep is better than a camel in the matter of 'aqiqah". So if a person came to us and said: I prefer to perform the 'aqiqah for my child with a small she-camel; is this better, or should I perform it with a sheep? We would say: The sheep is better, because this is what the Sunnah has come with. Leave the small she-camel for you to eat, but for the 'aqiqah, slaughter from the sheep as mentioned in the hadith. Yes.
