Explaining the Permissibility of Sins, and Explaining Shirk and Some Major Sins

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : What must be mentioned and explained on this occasion is that making forbidden things that lead to destruction permissible takes two forms. The first is committing forbidden acts while knowing their prohibition. This is a matter observed and widespread, with great regret, among Muslims today in all its forms and types, including major sins, namely associating partners with Allah (Mighty and Majestic). This is clearly manifested in some groups or individuals who call upon other than Allah (Mighty and Majestic) in times of distress, seek aid from other than Allah, make vows and slaughter for other than Allah, let alone the fact that most of them swear oaths by other than Allah. All of this is shirk, from the types of shirk widespread today among Muslims. Most of them—I do not say most of the common people, but I say most of the specialists—preach warnings about these types of shirk and idolatry. This is the greatest of major sins, as it came in some authentic hadiths: associating partners with Allah (Mighty and Majestic), killing the soul without right, undutifulness to parents, and consuming usury or interest. And what do you know about consuming usury or interest? It has also spread in this time due to the establishment of what they call banks. Also among the major sins is drinking intoxicants, women’s display of their adornment, building mosques over graves, and many, many others. The other part of the forbidden, of the prohibited things, is committing them without knowing their ruling or prohibition, due to ignorance of them. This is undoubtedly an evil that is also widespread among many Muslims. And another way is making them permissible through deception, in the manner of the Jews’ deception regarding the hunting of fish mentioned in the Qur'an, as is well known and famous, and their deception regarding their consumption of fats, as in the saying of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in the authentic hadith:
The Jews were cursed; the fats were forbidden to them, so they rendered them into tallow and then sold it and ate its price. And indeed, when Allah forbids the consumption of something, He forbids its price.
This hadith is one of the hadiths that we rarely hear from the tongues of preachers and warners. It is one of the very, very important hadiths that warn Muslims from falling into what the Jews fell into before them, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) warned them from falling into what they fell into, in the hadith narrated by al-Bukhari and others in his Sahih, from the hadith of Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
You will follow the wrong ways, of your predecessors so completely and literally that if they should go into the hole of a mastigure, you too will go there.
Sahih al-Bukhari 3456
They said: "O Messenger of Allah, the Jews and the Christians?" He said:
Who فمن
Or he said:
Who of the people فمن الناس
And I say, as a warning, that this type of committing and making permissible what Allah (Mighty and Majestic) has forbidden, through the slightest of deceptions, is present in many Muslims in some of their transactions and contracts. The most famous of that is the marriage of tahil, whose doer is cursed in the authentic Sunnah by the saying of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him):
Jabir bin Abdullah and Ali narrated: "The Messenger of Allah cursed the Muhill and the one the Muhallal was done for."
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 1119Da'if (Darussalam)
And despite that, some jurists among Muslims today still permit the marriage of tahil, despite the curse of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) upon its doer, just as you heard a moment ago. Also, what has spread in the modern era is installment sales with an increase in the price over the cash sale price, and also the sale of 'inah, which is widespread in some Islamic countries. I am sorry to say, and the space does not allow now to explain all of that, but I want to remind the brothers of a hadith that suits the occasion, which is his saying, may the prayers and peace be upon him:
If you trade by way of *'inah* (a buy-back sale used to disguise a loan), and take the tails of cattle, and are content with crops, and abandon jihad in the cause of Allah, Allah will impose upon you a humiliation which He will not remove from you until you return to your religion.
In this hadith, there is a very clear explanation of some of the diseases and ailments resulting from the love of this world, and the competition for it, and the immersion in taking the means of gathering wealth, which leads to what is happening among Muslims today, as mentioned by him, may the prayers and peace be upon him, in this hadith, following the disease of trading with 'inah and taking the tails of cows and being content with crops, he said, may the prayers and peace be upon him:
Al-Walid bin Al'Ayzar said: "I heard Abu 'Amr Ash-Shaibani say: 'The owner of this house - and he pointed to the house of 'Abdullah - said: I asked the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ): 'Which deed is most beloved to Allah, may He be exalted?' He said: 'Prayer offered on time, honoring one's parents, and Jihad in the cause of Allah.'"
Sunan an-Nasa'i 610Sahih (Darussalam)
So the abandonment of jihad, which has become general today, includes, with great regret, all Arab and Islamic countries, despite them having the means of jihad and fighting that the Muslim peoples passionate about defending their lands and territories, and even their honor, do not possess. This was a natural result, the Sunnah of Allah (Mighty and Majestic)
and you will not find in the way of Allah any change.
[Al-Ahzab 33:62]
that they fall into such violations and make permissible what Allah (Mighty and Majestic) has forbidden, was a natural thing for Allah to subject them to humiliation. This humiliation that we see has settled upon the lands of all Muslims, and even if they were free in appearance, but with great regret, they cannot move as their Lord's Book and the Sunnah of their Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) command them, just as it came in the authentic hadith
Strive against the disbelievers with your wealth, your tongues, and your persons.
We have now abolished jihad with the self and relied on jihad with wealth because of its abundance with us, and with the tongue because of its ease for us. As for jihad with the selves, that has become, with regret, a thing of the past. And therefore, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) described the disease with the cure in this authentic hadith, where he mentioned examples of the diseases that will afflict Muslims at the beginning of this hadith, the hadith of 'inah, then he explained at the end, may the prayers and peace be upon him, the cure, and he said:
That He will not remove from you until you return to your religion.
And this cure is the only treatment for Muslims if they want their honor and glory to return to them, and for Allah to establish them in the land as He established those before them. He said, may the prayers and peace be upon him:
Give this Ummah (the Muslim community) good tidings of glory, elevation, majesty, and establishment in the earth. And whoever among them does a deed, he will have no share in the Hereafter.
