He spoke about preparing for battle.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : If so, preparation for jihad in the path of Allah is necessary. I have said this more than once, and perhaps you have heard it on some of the tapes. I repeat what I said: the words of Allah, Mighty and Majestic:
And prepare against them whatever you are able of power وأعدوا لهم ما استطعتم من قوة
[Al-Anfal 8:60]
to the end of the verse. The address here is directly to the Companions, meaning the Companions who were raised in Islam. Then, by the generality of the text, it includes the Muslims who were raised in the manner of the Companions. It is not for the sinful Muslims, nor for the Muslims who threw themselves upon the world, whose love of the world has occupied them from jihad in the path of Allah. Rather, the address here is for the sincere, truthful Muslims. And "prepare" is not an address to Muslims like those of today, in the end times, whose love of the world and hatred of death, as mentioned in the hadith, has occupied them from jihad in the path of Allah. So His saying, the Exalted:
And prepare وأعدوا
is an address to the sincere, truthful Muslims. How can Abd al-Rahman say that this address is first to the individual and not to the group? It is a very strange thing, hardly believable, unless the transmitters are truthful.
Abu Malik : Shaykh, we hear what Ibn Jarir says.

The Shaykh : Very good.
Abu Malik : May Allah have mercy on him, in his interpretation of this verse.

The Shaykh: Go ahead.
Abu Malik : He says, may Allah have mercy on him: By His saying, Glorious is His mention:
So fight, [O Muhammad], in the cause of Allah; you are not held responsible except for yourself. فقاتل في سبيل الله لا تكلف إلا نفسك
[An-Nisa 4:84]
As for His saying:
you are not held responsible except for yourself لا تكلف إلا نفسك
[An-Nisa 4:84]
it means: Allah does not burden you in what He has made obligatory upon you of fighting His enemy and your enemy, except with what you can bear of it, not what others can bear of it. That is, you only follow.

The Shaykh : What you can bear, and what else?
Abu Malik : Yes, "what you can bear of fighting His enemy and your enemy, except with what you can bear of it, not what others can bear of it. That is, you only follow what you have acquired, not what others have acquired." This is the interpretation of the verse.

The Shaykh : That is it.
Ali Hasan : Ibn Kathir, what does he say? Shaykh: "He commands, the Exalted, His servant and Messenger Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) to engage in fighting with his own self, and whoever shirks it, there is no blame on him for it."

The Shaykh : This is what
Ali Hasan : This is what he mentionedThe Shaykh .

The Shaykh : This is it, glory be to Allah.
Ali Hasan : The issue of shirking in a group is...

The Shaykh : Alone. May Allah help us. And you, if Allah wills.
Abu Malik : And then, Shaykh, he argues for the obligation of jihad by the departure of Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him). And Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said when he departed: "By Allah, I will fight them alone as long as I hold the sword in my hand." He makes this word of Abu Bakr and his departure alone mean that Abu Bakr did not depart with the group of Muslims!

The Shaykh: Allahu Akbar.
Abu Malik : This is strange, my brother. He says this is also proof that the single individual is addressed by the community regarding jihad!

The Shaykh : My master, we are relieved of this ignorance, unfortunately, and we say, my brother, practice what you believe!
Abu Malik : Yes, by Allah.

The Shaykh : Practice what you believe. And why does he not do it?
Abu Malik : No, he practices what he does not believe.

The Shaykh : I am telling you why he does not do it? Because he does not believe in what he says.
Abu Malik: Yes, by Allah

The Shaykh : May Allah help us, and there is no power or strength except with Allah. May Allah keep you all safe, if Allah wills.

The questioner : Shaykh, may Allah bless you. May Allah reward you with good.

The Shaykh: Yes.

The questioner : Advice for the brothers who, Shaykh, believe in this methodology?

The Shaykh : My master, the advice has already been given. May Allah bless you. They must adhere to knowledge, they must adhere to knowledge and upbringing upon this knowledge, purified from the Book and the Sunnah. And I say that politics is obligatory, but on this day, I have said, and our brother Abd al-Rahman may now object, that of politics, leaving politics now, now, of politics, leaving politics. Because everything that a person jumps into before taking the means that prepare for this jump, the one who jumps will be a means to fall on his head. This is very clear in material matters, just as it is in spiritual matters!
Abu Malik : Al-Abbas ibn Mardas, Shaykh.

The Shaykh : This is it, by Allah, and may Allah help us.
Abu Malik : May Allah reward you with good, O our Shaykh, and bless you. I ask Allah, the Great, Lord of the Great Throne, to extend your life, and to bless your effort, and to strengthen your back, and to make you always a raised standard, the sword of knowledge in the faces of the enemies of the Sunnah and the Book.
