The Shaykh said that he saw the sun rise three-quarters of an hour after the time indicated by the calendar in a district of the city of Aqaba.

Abu Malik: Our Shaykh, I said that there is a strange matter in Aqaba?

The Shaykh : It is a must that some of our brothers present, when they head toward the sea from the official street, see that there is a mountain on the left, which the train passes under. There is no doubt that those who are behind this mountain are not the same as those who are toward the coast. I was staying in a house on the second or third floor; I no longer remember which one. Do you remember?

Abu Malik: At Abu Anas’s place?

The Shaykh: Yes.
Abu Malik: The fourth.

The Shaykh : Good. I am in this high apartment, and I see the sun rise three-quarters of an hour after what is stated in the calendar. Do you see? Legally, if someone is in this area and wakes up before seeing the sun rise over the top of the mountain, is the Fajr prayer valid, or not?
Abu Malik: Of course, it is valid.

The Shaykh : Of course, it is valid. But according to the calendar, it is wrong. It tells you, especially if you are an employee, that this prayer is gone. I will now look at my job and then make it up at my leisure. Let us return to the hadith: and so on. This cannot be applied to the calendar, my brother, not at all. There must be a mu'adhdhin who bears the responsibility of the others who hear his adhan and pray upon it. As for these fine differences, not every Muslim is obligated to know them. Therefore, it is necessary to maintain the adhan in every mosque. And in that case, the phenomenon the professor pointed out, which is indeed pleasing, is not a complete pleasure. If the adhans are multiplied at the same time, we say this is, by Allah, a great Islamic phenomenon and a major Islamic symbol. But greater than that is that you now hear an adhan here, and after a while you hear an adhan, and after a while you hear an adhan, as if this entire ocean is in the remembrance of Allah (Mighty and Majestic), raising the banner of tawhid (the oneness of Allah) according to what? The difference in these sunrises. So this is a matter we must strive to revive through those who have the means to revive it. As for us individuals, we do not have that power!
Abu Malik: I remember, our Shaykh, that in one of the years, the dispute over this issue intensified. One of the senior officials in the Ministry of Awqaf said, "By Allah, my brother Abu Malik, the truth is that his view is not precise in this issue!"

The Shaykh : Strange. I thought he would say the opposite!
Abu Malik: "My view is not precise." I said, "By Allah, may Allah bless you, clarify it to me." He said, "My house, do you know? It was on the high Tel mountain. I saw the sun, and I was sitting in my house, the sun set. The sun set and fell behind the horizon, but he said: 'Make sure for me that it is not absent.' I said to him, 'How, may Allah bless you?' He said: 'There was an airplane in the air, and if the sun's ray is reflected on it, imagine, I ask you by Allah.' I said: 'Subhan Allah! So the one who is in the airplane does not pray and does not fast!'"
