Is a person held accountable for an error in creed resulting from a misunderstanding?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : And if they err by contradicting the text, not intentionally but due to a misunderstanding, they are not held accountable for that. Accountability occurs when the proof is established against a person, whether the proof concerns a creedal or intellectual issue or a jurisprudential issue, and then he stubbornly persists in his error. In that case, he is held accountable. The opposite is not the case; that is, if a person falls into a creedal error but he was eager to know the truth in that creed, yet he was not successful in doing so, and if the proof were established against him, he would return to the truth, then he is not held accountable for that. This matter, in reality, leads us to one of those methodological issues that we must know, for some scholars, and especially writers today, err in this issue.
