The people of the period of discontinuity were polytheists, and yet they are not punished.

The Shaykh : I will mention to you another type, and you will know this because you hear that the people of the period of discontinuity are not punished, is that not so? The people of the period of discontinuity are not punished. Now, do you say that they were not polytheists? They were polytheists, but they are not punished. Why? Because the proof of Allah was not established against them, meaning the call of the Messenger did not reach them. I am speaking in general terms about the people of the period of discontinuity; I do not mean those to whom the Messenger was sent, but as a general rule, the people of the period of discontinuity to whom the call of the Messenger did not reach, even if they were polytheists, are not punished.
