The Calamities and Disasters Befalling the Ummah: Is Qunut Prescribed for Them?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Abu Malik: He saysThe questioner : Also, regarding supplication, what is your response to those who claim the permissibility of permanent supplication, because in these days there are occurrences, as you see the state of the ummah today?

The Shaykh : Look now at the ignorance of the Sunnah; how they turn the Sunnah into bid'ah and bid'ah into Sunnah. I want to say that the original ruling for supplication in response to occurrences is qunut. So, is qunut now for an occurrence? It is a dead matter. Qunut in the Fajr prayer is preserved, as if it were an obligatory Sunnah. Now, the question here asks: What is your opinion of those who say that supplication on Friday is permissible for these occurrences that have befallen the Muslims? I say: Do these supplications we hear today from these preachers relate to the specific type of occurrence that befalls the Muslims? The answer is no.
So, this is intended to justify and legitimize what they do, claiming that this is supplication for an occurrence. This is one thing. The second thing I want to mention is the intended meaning of an occurrence, my brothers. I will exaggerate with a distant example to make the close example understood. If someone said, "I have made it a habit to supplicate in the five prayers, not just in Fajr, that our Lord, Mighty and Majestic, will destroy the Christians who occupied Andalusia and return Andalusia to the Muslims," Muslims would find this supplication objectionable, under the claim that this is supplication or qunut for an occurrence. My brother, this is not an occurrence; it has become a disaster that settled in the lands of the Muslims, and the Muslims were defeated, so the matter became forgotten. An occurrence is what befalls the Muslims recently. But if it becomes a habit, you see, unfortunately, that the new, very strong, and very shameful occurrence for the Muslims is the occupation of Palestine by the Jews. Do you find an imam who performs the prescribed qunut and supplicates for Allah to help the Muslims against the Jews in Palestine in the qunut of the five prayers? You do not find this. So, if a temporary matter befalls the Muslims, that is what qunut is prescribed for in the five prayers. But if this temporary matter becomes part of the life of the Muslims, it is not considered that qunut is prescribed for it for the sake of occurrences.
We are now in a mosque near here, meaning we pray in the mosque.
Abu Layla : My brothers, no one asks unless they raise their hand. I hope you do not interrupt. Each one... speechThe Shaykh : on the topic. Whoever has a comment on this topic raises his hand. If it is possibleThe Shaykh : to complete. Yes... Abu Ayyub does not say.
