Some Rulings on the Qunut for Occasions of Calamity

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : In answer to the aforementioned question, the gist of which is that some of the imams of the mosques today, when they perform the qunut, it is supposed to be for the calamity that has befallen the Muslims due to Iraq's occupation of Kuwait and Saudi Arabia's bringing of disbelieving nations into its lands. This is undoubtedly one of the greatest misfortunes to befall the Muslims, and it warrants the prescribed qunut in the five daily prayers. The question was raised that some of the imams of the mosques are not reciting a supplication that corresponds to the calamity, but rather a general supplication from the general du'as that it is prescribed for the Muslim to recite constantly. The answer is that the qunut in the five daily prayers with a general supplication that has no connection to the calamity that has befallen the Muslims is not in accordance with the Sunnah in any way. I mentionedThe questioner : that we always criticize some of the imams who continue to perform the qunut in the Fajr prayer with
O Allah, guide us among those You have guided, and grant us well-being among those You have granted well-being
Sahih Ibn Hibban 7:117
up to the end of the well-known supplication, but it is known in the singular form
Allahumma ihdini fiman hadayta
Sunan an-Nasa'i 1745Sahih (Darussalam)
and not in the plural form. Reciting this supplication in the qunut of Fajr continuously is not from the Sunnah. This is because the hadith regarding his (peace and blessings be upon him) qunut in Fajr, which is from the hadith of Anas with the wording
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) continued to perform the qunut in the Fajr prayer until he departed this world
, this hadith is not authentic because it is narrated by a man known for his weakness in preserving what he narrates and his lack of precision in his hadith, namely Abu Ja'far al-Razi, who is famous by his kunyah, and his name is Isa ibn Mahan. So this hadith from Anas is weak because of this narrator. Add to that that the hadith came from Anas ibn Malik himself with a sound chain, as narrated by Ibn Khuzaymah and Ibn Hibban in their *Sahih*s. Anas said
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) did not perform the qunut except when he supplicated for a group or against a group
, that negation of that is not established absolutely. From whom? From Anas. And it is authentic from Anas that he said
It was rarely that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ)
Sunan Abi Dawud 2605Sahih (Al-Albani)
in one of two cases: either he supplicates for a group of oppressed believers on earth, or he supplicates against a group of arrogant polytheists who torment the oppressed believers. So Anas confirms that this hadith narrated from him through the route of Abu Ja'far al-Razi is a hadith that is not authentic. It is not that it is not authentic as being attributed to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), but rather it is not authentic as being attributed to Anas, because it is authentic from Anas that he said
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) did not perform the qunut except when he supplicated for a group or against a group
. So if we know this, then a fortiori it is not permissible to supplicate with this other than the calamity in a prayer in which there is no clear fabricated hadith.
