And is it permissible to make two sermons on the day of the festival by analogy to the Friday sermon?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Yes.
Al-Halabi : Some students of knowledge say that the hadiths that were transmitted regarding the mention of the festival sermon do not mention the sermon or the two sermons, so it is attached to the original Friday sermon, and thus it would have two sermons. Is this statement correct, and what is the truth in this matter?

The Shaykh : This attachment was mentioned by some scholars in the past, and it is from the category of analogy. We do not see analogy in the rulings of the sacred law as prescribed, except within the limits of dire necessity. This is what Imam al-Shafi'i stated, that analogy in the Shari'ah is a matter of dire necessity. If the dire necessity is found that compels a person to analogize a ruling that is not explicitly stated to a ruling that is explicitly stated, then he does so; otherwise, he has no need for it. And regarding the festival sermon, many hadiths have come that narrate that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) delivered a sermon... the text, or at the indication of the texts that spoke about the sermons of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) on Friday, and that we do not resort to analogy, because we do not feel any dire necessity to analogize the festival sermon to the Friday sermon. And among the problems of analogy is that it does not stop at a limit. So if someone says that we analogize the sermons of the two festivals to the Friday sermon, then one could say, no, we analogize the festival sermon to something other than the Friday sermon, such as the prayer for rain sermon, for example, or the eclipse prayer sermon, for example. And conversely, if the aforementioned door of analogy is opened, we will contradict all the sermons that came from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), as I mentioned earlier, such as the eclipse sermon and the prayer for rain sermon, and the like. These sermons would also be analogized to the Friday sermon. Is there anyone who says that?

Another questioner : Peace be upon you.

The Shaykh : And upon you be the peace. No one says that, and praise be to Allah. If we adhere to what has been transmitted and do not add to it, where is the observer of the sun?

Another questioner: He is present.

The Shaykh : Okay, is the sun visible from your location?

Another questioner : Yes, yes.

The Shaykh : Yes, good.
