The Shaykh’s citation of the hadith of the man who lent his brother in Allah one thousand dinars, which Allah then repaid on his behalf, as an argument for the fear of Allah.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : I would like to mention on this occasion two wonderful and strange hadiths; but we, the Muslims, are in great need of them in an age where materialism has prevailed, and
Love of the world is the head of every sin
, as it came in some weak hadiths that are not authentic; but their meaning is beautiful:
Love of the world is the head of every sin
, and this is what is in the hadith that suffices for it and adds to it.
When you enter into the inah transaction, hold the tails of oxen, are pleased with agriculture, and give up conducting jihad (struggle in the way of Allah). Allah will make disgrace prevail over you, and will not withdraw it until you return to your original religion.
Sunan Abi Dawud 3462Sahih (Al-Albani)
.
If you trade with 'inah
, why? Love of wealth. This! Love of wealth has led us to humiliation, so that the most humble nation on the face of the earth in the entire history of the earth, the Jews, control us; why? Because the Messenger warned us; he said:
If you trade with 'inah
The 'inah is a type of usurious transactions.
and take the tails of cows
is an allusion to being occupied with milking and farming, and leaving jihad in the path of Allah, and asking about the rulings of Allah; we do not care about anything except wealth, as also came in Sahih al-Bukhari; he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
A time will come upon my Ummah when they will not care whether they ate from what is lawful or from what is forbidden
or as he (peace and blessings be upon him) said. And the hadith is in Sahih al-Bukhari. This is our time. So the cure is: fear Allah,
And whoever fears Allah - He will make for him a way out
[At-Talaq 65:2]
to the end of the verse. One of the two hadiths mentioned earlier, perhaps this hadith and that one will remain in the hearts of some of the attendees; then they will convey it to the absent ones who are afflicted with love of the world; so they do not ask about the forbidden to avoid it, nor about the lawful to engage in it. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
A man from before you came to a rich man; and said to him: Lend me one hundred dinars; he said: Bring a guarantor; he said: Allah is the guarantor; he said: Bring a witness; he said: Allah is the witness; so he paid him one hundred dinars, and they agreed to repay on a promised day. The man took the one hundred dinars and went to work at sea, a long distance away; then the promised day came; and he knew that he could not deliver the debt he owed on that day ... look at what he did. He took a log and carved it; he dug it and packed one hundred dinars in it, and packed it well and sealed it; then he came to the seashore where he works; and said: O Lord! You were the guarantor, and You were the witness, and he threw the log into the sea
. You will say—and I am with you—only at the beginning, not at the end—you will say: this is a madman’s action, what does it mean to throw a log with a heavy weight of one hundred dinars into the sea?! But this man truly relied on Allah when the prescribed worldly means were blocked for him; so he relied on Allah; and said: You were the guarantor, and You were the witness, You, by Your knowledge, by Your power, arrange it for me!
Our Lord (Mighty and Majestic), by His immense power which has no limits, commanded the waves to carry this plank to the town of the creditor. The creditor went out on the appointed day to meet the debtor and collect the debt from him. He waited and waited, and he waited and waited, but he did not come! However, his gaze fell upon a plank that the waves were tossing and playing with before him; so he reached out for it. When he found it, it was not a plank like other planks; it was heavy and weighty. He was amazed by it and took it to his house. Then he broke it open, and lo! it was one hundred dinars; red stone, red gold. After a short while, the debtor came.
—look at what the debt does to its people and companions—
He paid him one hundred dinars!
ignored what he did, why? Because it is not according to the natural laws, it is not guaranteed to be received until he gets a receipt that it reached so-and-so and the matter is over. No, the matter is above the means; he threw it into the sea—as you know—and therefore he ignored what he did,
And he delivered one hundred dinars to the creditor.
. The creditor is like the debtor, both are pious, and as it is said: birds fall with their own kind,
The man sat and thought – it seems –: If I received one hundred dinars by way of the sea, and now I am receiving one hundred dinars by way of the debtor; so he told him the story: "Indeed, I went out to meet you and receive you, but you did not come; so I found a plank; and I took it and broke it open, and lo! there were one hundred dinars inside." He said to him: "By Allah! The story is such and such. When I found that I was unable to return to the town and deliver one hundred dinars to you; I did such and such." The creditor said: "May Allah bless you in your wealth. Take the one hundred dinars that I gave you, and my right reached me by way of what? The sea."
. If this story happened today and a person received one hundred dinars by a way that no one knows except Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He). Who would return these moneys if a person came and said to him: I sent it to you in a somewhat strange way, did it reach you? No, it did not reach me, if he denied it, there are no witnesses against him, and the claimant cannot prove it; but faith brings wonders. And this is one of the wonders; the story between the creditor and the debtor is two wonders, we must take a lesson from that; so that we fear Allah (Mighty and Majestic). The second hadith, and with it we end the session; so that we stand up to pray—I hope Allah wills—here the 'Isha' prayer; he (peace and blessings be upon him) said before this first hadith in Sahih al-Bukhari,
