The questioner : A girl who praises Allah for being a believer, but her problem is that during the performance of the prayer she becomes distracted and recites the al-Fatihah and some surahs while sitting and bowing, and haste takes over her during the performance of the prayer. Is there anything upon her for that? Please inform us, may Allah reward you?
The Shaykh : There is no doubt that it is obligatory for a person to try to drive away these doubts and these whispers so that he is present in heart in his prayer, at ease in it, knowing what he says and what he does. For this reason, Allah the Exalted forbade a person to approach the prayer until he knows what he says, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade praying in the presence of food and praying while holding in the two worst things, urine and feces. All of this is for the sake of achieving presence of heart and humility in the prayer. My advice to this woman afflicted with this ailment is to do what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded. If she feels the whispers and disturbances, let her spit to her left three times and seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Shaytan. If she does that with faith, sincerity, and expecting a cure from this illness, then it will benefit her. But if she goes along with these disturbances and whispers, then Shaytan will play with her and keep her always in confusion and anxiety, until perhaps the whole prayer is gone and she does not know what she is saying.
The questioner : May Allah bless you. The listener Hana Muhammad says in her first question—she actually has three questions. She says in the first question.
