What is the ruling on planting trees on graves and tending to them with watering until the cemetery is filled with trees?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Some people, O Shaykh, plant a tree on a grave and visit this grave on the pretext that they are watering this tree. So what is your opinion of this? I mean, should this tree be cut down? It is possible that women also do this action, until the olive trees, fig trees, and fruit trees have multiplied on the graves.

The Shaykh : Yes, this is a method that is undoubtedly not Islamic from many aspects, the most important of which is that it is the method of the disbelievers who are bothered by the neighbors of the graves. Therefore, whoever travels to the lands of disbelief finds the cemeteries to be most like lush gardens, planted with many trees, flowers, and the like, so that when a passerby goes through that area, he is not bothered by the mention of death. The Muslims are now following the ways of those before them, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) foretold in the authentic hadith:
You will follow the wrong ways, of your predecessors so completely and literally that if they should go into the hole of a mastigure, you too will go there. لتتبعن سنن من قبلكم شبرًا بشبر وذراعًا بذراع حتى لو دخلوا جحر ضب لدخلتموه
Sahih al-Bukhari 3456
to the end of the hadith. So this phenomenon is an imitation of the disbelievers. And part of the completeness of this imitation is what some Islamic countries, and our country unfortunately among them, have been afflicted with, which is moving the cemeteries outside the town. By doing so, they cut off the connection between the living and the dead, meaning they disable the visiting of graves, because it is not usually possible for a Muslim whose father has died to pack his bags and go outside the town to visit his father. No, by Allah, he is not asking about his father, nor his mother, nor his sister. This is a goal to cut off the connection between the living and the dead by way of achieving the Sharia objective mentioned earlier. Therefore, if there were a truly Islamic state, this issue, although as some say it is secondary, and we do not mean to say it is from the category of superficial matters, but it is secondary, nevertheless, they would plan the town or city or capital so that the graves are not in it except inside it, yes, so that they do not cut off the connection between the Muslims and his saying (peace be upon him):
but now visit them, for they remind you of the Hereafter ألا فزوروها فإنها تذكركم الآخرة
Musnad Ahmad 1236, 1237Sahih, because of corroborating evidence; this is a da'eef isnad because of the weakness of Ali bin Zaid and Rabee'ah bin an-Nabighah and his father are unknown], Sahih because of corroborating eviden (Darussalam)
