Is it permissible to buy from and work with the Jews?

The questioner : Second question, O Shaykh, since war is ongoing between us and the Jews, is it permissible to buy from the Jews and work for them in a European country?

The questioner : Yes, and working for them in a European country.

The Shaykh : We do not distinguish between the Jews and the Christians regarding dealing with them in those lands... with the disbelievers and those who associate partners with Allah. If they are dhimmis (protected non-Muslims) residing in the lands of Islam, it is well known that this is permissible. Likewise, if they are at peace and not at war, the ruling is the same. However, if they are at war, it is not permissible to deal with them, whether in the land they have occupied, such as the Jews in the land of Palestine, or in their own land, as long as they are at war with us. It is not permissible to deal with them at all. As for one who is at peace, as we said, it is permissible according to the original ruling.
