What is the ruling on selling a sheep by weight while it is alive?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : We have a phenomenon, which is buying a sheep by weight while it is alive.

The Shaykh : How?

The questioner : Buying a sheep by weight while it is alive means weighing it like this, meaning with its wool and everything in it.

The Shaykh : For example.

The questioner : Meaning, we take the sheep, put it on the scale, and sell it like this, meaning not as meat, but as a live sheep, right?

The Shaykh : I understand. What I believe is that if there is no intention to deceive, this is better than weighing by hand, because some butchers—and the earth is full of them—when they want to buy, they lift it up and guess and estimate. Estimation by weight is undoubtedly more precise. So if that is permissible, then this is permissible a fortiori. As for deception, there is no way to get rid of it except through proper upbringing.

Another questioner: Peace be upon you.

The Shaykh : And upon you be peace, and Allah's mercy and blessings.

Another questioner : For example, if it is sold to be weighed without... it is sold, for example, for two and a half dinars, and if it is sold, for example, with its wool, and all this is sold, for example, for one and a half dinars per kilogram, is this permissible in general?

The Shaykh : It is permissible, yes. Was your question answered or not?

The questioner: No.

The Shaykh : Why? Bring it so we can see.
