Ruling on selling a live animal by weight

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question: There are people who sell animals, such as cattle, sheep, and the like, while they are still alive, by the kilogram for a known price, knowing that the buyer sometimes intends to keep them, or to slaughter them to sell to people.
An example of this is: we go to an animal owner, choose what we want to buy, then he brings them to a scale he has and weighs them while alive, and sells them at a price per kilogram, for example, ten riyals. What is the ruling on this sale? Please inform us, may Allah reward you.

Answer: We do not know of any harm in selling a permissible animal—such as camels, cattle, and sheep—and the like by weight, whether it is alive or slaughtered; due to the generality of the saying of the Exalted:
But Allah has permitted trade and has forbidden interestوَأَحَلَّ اللّهُ الْبَيْعَ وَحَرَّمَ الرِّبَا
[al-Baqarah: 275], and due to the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when he was asked: "Which earning is the purest?" He said:
A man’s work with his hand and every business transaction which is approvedعمل الرجل بيده، وكل بيع مبرور
Mishkat al-Masabih 2783
, and because there is no ignorance or excessive uncertainty in it. And success is from Allah.
