The questioner : He says that the tree from which Adam ate is the wheat tree, and he said...
The Shaykh : Wheat?
The questioner : Yes. And he says that I found that in a book called "Bada'i al-Zuhur fi Waqi'at al-Duhur". They say that the tree is wheat. Is this correct?
The Shaykh : The correct view is that the tree is not known to us specifically, because Allah the Exalted made it ambiguous in His Book, and whatever Allah makes ambiguous in His Book, it is not permissible for us to specify it except with evidence from an infallible source, from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Anything other than that has no value. The Isra'iliyyat reports differed in specifying this tree. If there had been any benefit in specifying it, Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, would have specified it for us. But the entire benefit lies in the story and the issue, not in the type of tree, whether it is wheat or not. Yes.
The questioner : May Allah reward you. This listener, Ibrahim al-Sudani, says.
