A statement by Mashhur Hasan regarding party calls.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Mashhur: A brief word on this topic. May Allah reward you.

The Shaykh: Go ahead.
Mashhur: Our Shaykh, the Islamic calls—and I do not mean groups—when they seek to justify their legitimacy, they resort to Prophetic hadiths. Among the hadiths they resort to is the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
whoever parts from the Jama'ah the measure of a hand-span, then he has cast off the yoke of Islam from his neck من فارق الجماعة قيد شبر فقد خلع ربقة الإسلام من عنقه
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2863Sahih (Darussalam)

The Shaykh: Allahu Akbar.
Mashhur: What is established in their minds, whether they are aware of it or not—and this varies among the individuals of these calls—is that this person has left the group, and they consider themselves one of the groups. When they mention these hadiths, it becomes, in the subconscious if I may use that expression, that this person has not left this call. He may leave for reasons he sees and observations... In both cases, there are destructive results, and very destructive ones. I suspect, and I do not want to get ahead of the conversation, that our brother will sing about them beforehand. I say these destructive results are that they will treat him as if he has left the group that is meant in the hadith of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The second type, who may have left for matters that befall him, will himself remain weak, feeble, and lacking in commitment; because he feels in his own heart that he left the group. He did not correct this concept; he left for matters that befell him, and he did not correct the true concept. So in both cases, our Shaykh, they have destructive results, and very destructive ones. This is most apparent in areas with a party presence. After this, my Shaykh, do not ask what he will face. I say for myself, when I left the Muslim Brotherhood, one day I was praying Fajr in the mosque where I pray, and one of the brothers, one of the good brothers who used to praise and commend and benefit and so on, started, as he was walking away, reading and memorizing, or perhaps he intended it, reading Surat Muhammad. When he reached the saying of Allah the Exalted:
Indeed, those who reverted back [to disbelief] after guidance had become clear to them - Satan enticed them and prolonged hope for them.
[Muhammad 47:25]
he looked at me and repeated it in a loud voice, yes, and he was intentional, and I... the concept.

The Shaykh : Did they do this to you?

The questioner : Yes, this brother did this to me. So in my opinion, and I do not want to lengthen this, perhaps I threw the stick in front of the shepherd.
Al-Halabi : The hadith has branches with Abu 'Ubaydah.

The Shaykh : Yes, by Allah. Allah is the Helper. Well, I have a bad interpretation, but I want to hear it, but do not record it as the brother requested. Stay in the group and enjoin good and forbid evil, and that will save you from all the consequences you fear; because the end will be, as they say, they will expel him... What do they say?
Al-Halabi : They expel him and suspend him.

The Shaykh : Professor Mashhur, what do they say?
Mashhur: They suspend him first.

The Shaykh : They suspend him first, and then?

The questioner : They expel him.

The Shaykh : That is it. The point is that you proceed in the matter step by step. I see that you should stay in your place, but with the basic condition that you enjoin good and forbid evil. Let not love of anyone in the path of Allah deter you, so that the saying of our Lord does not come true for us, God forbid:
They used not to prevent one another from wrongdoing that they did. How wretched was that which they were doing. كَانُوا لا يَتَنَاهَوْنَ عَنْ مُنكَرٍ فَعَلُوهُ لَبِئْسَ مَا كَانُوا يَفْعَلُونَ
[Al-Ma'idah 5:79]
This is the verse, Abu Anas?

Another questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : And upon you be peace and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. The examples you mentioned are good examples of your forbidding of Islamic banks and the so-called parliaments, and so on. But you must sing about the creed, because I believe, with my long experience that has exceeded sixty years, that all Islamic groups, except those who adhere to the Book and the Sunnah, and not only to the Book and the Sunnah, but also to the methodology of the righteous predecessors, we distinguish between one who adheres to the Book and the Sunnah only, and one who adheres to the Book and the Sunnah and the methodology of the righteous predecessors. This is very necessary. Do not hold it against me if I singled you out by name to be clear about this distinction between one who calls to the Book and the Sunnah only, and one who calls to the Book and the Sunnah and the methodology of the righteous predecessors. This requires detail; if we find time, we will detail it. You should sing about alerting your brothers, with whom you lived for twenty years as you said, to correct their creed for Allah.
