He spoke about the hadith: (Every innovation is misguidance).

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : First, I start from his saying (peace and blessings be upon him), and may Allah have mercy on you:
Avoid novelties, for every novelty is an innovation, and every innovation is an error و إياكم و محدثات الأمور فإن كل محدثة بدعة و كل بدعة ضلالة و كل ضلالة في النار
Sunan Abi Dawud 4607Sahih (Al-Albani)
Here, I have a brief pause. The one who can say that this matter is a religious innovation is the one who has the most comprehensive knowledge possible of what the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) and the righteous predecessors were upon. For example, if we say that this minaret is an innovation, and these innovators ask us, do you have a text that the minaret did not exist in the time of the Messenger? Do you have a text that the celebration of the Prophet’s birthday is not in it? Of course, you do not have such a text. But when our scholars say that the celebration is an innovation and the minaret is an innovation, and whatever else you count of thousands of innovations, where do they take this from? They take it from their study of the life of the righteous predecessors, that no minaret was mentioned, no celebration was mentioned, no celebration for the day of Ashura was mentioned, nor the wailing and crying on the day of Ashura according to the method of the Shi'ah, and so on. They understand from these abandoned matters that they did not exist. From this extensive study, a person can benefit from this hadith
Beware of the newly invented matters و إياكم و محدثات الأمور
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2676Sahih (Darussalam)
'A'isha reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: He who innovates things in our affairs for which there is no valid (reason) (commits sin) and these are to be rejected. من أحدث في أمرنا هذا ما ليس منه فهو رد
Sahih Muslim 1718a
That is, one should know our matter, meaning our religion. The one who does not know our religion will never distinguish between the Sunnah and religious innovation. Therefore, it is very important in our topic here that when we want to say that this part is not practiced, we should know the position of the righteous predecessors, the Companions, the Tabi'un, and their followers in the three centuries attested to as the best. Did this thing exist? We read these texts; all of them take the practice and do not mention absolute exemption. If this absolute exemption is not practiced, that is what I believe and I testify to Allah with it. And I add to this belief that without this, we cannot revive the Sunnah, but rather we open the door for innovations and innovators to spread their innovations in our lands, even we, the people of the Sunnah and the community. I gave you an example of one of the scholars of hadith in Pakistan who supported the innovation that Imam al-Shatibi rejected, because he is an imam who specialized in studying that every innovation is misguidance and every misguidance is in the Fire. And therefore, I believe it is very, very important to study the principles of hadith as a practical study, and likewise the principles of jurisprudence as a practical study, otherwise a person will stumble in a very strange way in his jurisprudence and his hadith. And perhaps this is sufficient, and praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds. Yes.

The questioner : I told you, two questions.

The Shaykh : Ah, please go ahead.
