What is the ruling on a man who bought a car from the bank for five thousand, and then another person went and bought it for him from the bank for six thousand?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Yes.

The questioner : Peace be upon you

The Shaykh : And upon you be peace.

The questioner : May Allah give you health.

The Shaykh : May Allah keep you safe.

The questioner : I want to ask you, my master. I bought a car from the bank for five thousand dinars. I told him the price of the car is five thousand dinars. He went and bought it for the same price and sold it to me for six thousand dinars. Is this permissible or not?

The Shaykh : Riba

The questioner : Riba

The Shaykh : Yes.

The questioner : Is there a bit of detail?

The Shaykh : No, there is no detail. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) cursed the accepter of interest and its payer, and one who records it, and the two witnesses لعن الله آكل الربا و موكله و كاتبه و شاهديه
Sahih Muslim 1598
It is not permissible for you to buy in this manner, and it is not permissible for the Islamic bank to sell in this manner, because if you want detail:

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : For example, if you go to the bank and say, "Give me four thousand; I want to buy a car," and he says, "I want you to give me four thousand and I will take five thousand."

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : This is open riba (usury or interest). He says, "No, I am a righteous man; I do not consume riba, but you go and take the car."

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : And we sell it to you for five thousand. What is the difference between the actual situation and the situation they claim to be free from?

The questioner : Yes, they changed the name.

The Shaykh : They call it by a name other than its true name.

The questioner : Yes, yes. May Allah bless you.

The Shaykh : May Allah bless you.

The questioner : May Allah give you health.

The Shaykh : May Allah forgive you.
