He spoke on the meaning of the hadith: (Cursing a Muslim is open sinfulness . . . . . . .) .

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : The word for disbelief that appears in those texts cannot be interpreted as meaning leaving the religion. For example, there is the well-known hadith in the two Sahihs, narrated by 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Abusing a Muslim is an outrage and fighting against him is unbelief سباب المسلم فسوق و قتاله كفر
Sahih Muslim 64a
Fighting him is disbelief. This is a variation in Arabic rhetorical style, because if someone were to say, "Cursing a Muslim and fighting him is open sinfulness," that would be a correct statement, as open sinfulness is disobedience and departure from obedience. However, the Messenger (peace be upon him), being the most eloquent of those who spoke the Arabic language, said:
Abusing a Muslim is an outrage and fighting against him is unbelief سباب المسلم فسوق و قتاله كفر
Sahih Muslim 64a
Do you think it is permissible for us to interpret the first part of this hadith, "Cursing a Muslim is open sinfulness," with the open sinfulness mentioned in the second or third phrase of the previous verse
And whoever does not judge by what Allah has revealed - then it is those who are the disbelievers. و من لم حكم بما أنزل الله فأولئك هم الفاسقون
[Al-Ma'idah 5:44]
? "Those are the open sinners." And "Cursing a Muslim is open sinfulness." We say that open sinfulness may also be a synonym for disbelief that means leaving the religion, or it may be a synonym for disbelief that does not mean leaving the religion, but rather what the interpreter of the Qur'an said is "disbelief less than disbelief." This hadith confirms that disbelief can have this meaning. Why? Because Allah (Mighty and Majestic) mentioned in the Noble Qur'an the well-known verse
And if two factions among the believers should fight, then make settlement between the two. But if one of them oppresses the other, then fight against the one that oppresses until it returns to the ordinance of Allah و إن طائفتان من المؤمنين اقتتلوا فأصلحوا بينهما فإن بغت إحداهما على الأخرى فقاتلوا التي تبغي حتى تفيء إلى أمر الله
[Al-Hujurat 49:9]
Here, our Lord (Mighty and Majestic) mentioned the transgressing faction that fights the successful faction, the righteous faction, the believing faction, and yet He did not rule that they are disbelievers, even though the hadith says:
And fighting him is disbelief و قتاله كفر
So fighting him is disbelief, meaning less than disbelief, as Ibn 'Abbas said in his interpretation of the previous verse. Thus, fighting a Muslim by a Muslim is transgression, aggression, open sinfulness, and disbelief.
