The questioner : What is the authenticity of this hadith narrated from the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) that when he went to his bed every night, he would cup his hands, then blow into them and recite: [Al-Ikhlas 112:1] and [An-Nas 114:1] and [Al-Falaq 113:1], then wipe with them whatever he could of his body, starting with his head and face and the front of his body, and he would do this three times? What is the manner of the blowing? I hope for your information and clarification, may Allah reward you?
The Shaykh : These two, this hadith is authentic from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), that he, may the prayers and blessings of Allah be upon him, when he went to his bed, would do what the questioner mentioned. But the questioner started with[An-Nas 114:1] before [Al-Falaq 113:1], and the correct order is that [Al-Falaq 113:1] comes before [An-Nas 114:1]. The blowing is a light exhalation accompanied by a little saliva.
The wisdom behind this is that this saliva is affected by the recitation of these noble surahs. So if it is affected by them and he wipes it on his face, head, and whatever he can of his body, there is in that goodness, blessing, protection, and safety for the person in his sleep. Yes.
