Discussion on the interpretation of the beginning of Surat al-Baqarah.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : We listened to what we heard from the recitation of our imams up to the beginning of Surat al-Baqarah. Whoever reflects on the beginning of this surah will see that Allah the Exalted divided people in it into three categories:
A believer in appearance and in reality, a disbeliever in appearance and in reality, and a hypocrite who is a believer in appearance and a disbeliever in reality.
In His saying, the Exalted:
(2) This is the Book about which there is no doubt, a guidance for those conscious of Allah - (3) Who believe in the unseen, establish prayer, and spend out of what We have provided for them, (4) And who believe in what has been revealed to you, [O Muhammad], and what was revealed before you, and of the Hereafter they are certain [in faith]. (5) Those are upon [right] guidance from their Lord, and it is those who are the successful.
[Al-Baqarah 2:2-5]
, in these verses, the believers in appearance and in reality are mentioned.
And in His saying:
(6) Indeed, those who disbelieve - it is all the same for them whether you warn them or do not warn them - they will not believe. (7) Allah has set a seal upon their hearts and upon their hearing, and over their vision is a veil. And for them is a great punishment.
[Al-Baqarah 2:6-7]
, these two verses are about those who were disbelievers in appearance and in reality.
And of the people are some who say, "We believe in Allah and the Last Day," but they are not believers.
[Al-Baqarah 2:8]
up to the end of a number of verses; this is about the hypocrites who believed in appearance and disbelieved in reality.
