Refuting those who cling to the messengers, call upon them, and seek aid from them other than Allah the Exalted.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : And by this, we know the misguidance of those people who cling to the messengers out of fear, awe, seeking aid, and hope, even though the messengers, in terms of lordship, are like everyone else and possess nothing. The one who clings to them is misguided in his religion and foolish in his mind. As for his misguidance in his religion, it is because the messengers (peace and blessings be upon them), and at their head their seal, Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), were commanded by Allah to announce to the people and say:
I do not tell you that I have the depositories [containing the provision] of Allah or that I know the unseen, nor do I tell you that I am an angel. I only follow what is revealed to me. لا أقول عندي خزائن الله ولا أعلم الغيب ولا أقول لكم إني ملك ، إن أتبع إلا ما يوحى إلي
[Al-An'am 6:50]
And He commanded him to say:
(21) Say, "Indeed, I do not possess for you [the power of] harm or right direction." (22) Say, "Indeed, there will never protect me from Allah anyone [if I should disobey], nor will I find in other than Him a refuge. قل إني لا أملك لكم ضراً ولا رشداً ، قل إني لن يجيرني من الله أحد ولن أجد من دونه ملتحداً
[Al-Jinn 72:21-22]
If this is the state of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), who is the greatest of people in status with Allah and the noblest of the messengers, what can be said of those below him among creation? Are they not more deserving of not possessing this? Yes, or rather, they are more deserving of not possessing this. And if they do not possess that, then listen to the saying of Allah (Mighty and Majestic):
And who is more astray than he who invokes besides Allah those who will not respond to him until the Day of Resurrection ومن أضل ممن يدعوا من دون الله من لا يستجيب له إلى يوم القيامة
[Al-Ahqaf 46:5]
And they are heedless of their calling of them. Indeed, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gathered his kin and kept calling them by their names, announcing that he possessed nothing for them from Allah, until he said to Fatimah, the daughter of Muhammad (may Allah be pleased with her, and peace and blessings be upon her father):
O Fatimah bint Muhammad! Ask me for whatever you want, I cannot avail you anything before Allah. يا فاطمة بنت محمد سليني من مالي ما شئت لا أغني عنك من الله شيئاً
Sunan an-Nasa'i 3646Sahih (Darussalam)
Allah is the Greatest. Ask me for whatever wealth you wish, and I will give it to you, but as for what concerns Allah (Mighty and Majestic), I cannot avail you of anything from Allah. If the messengers (peace and blessings be upon them) are servants of Allah who possess no benefit or harm for others, then those below them are even more so. What do you think of the one who clings to al-Badawi, or to 'Abd al-Qadir al-Jilani, or to so-and-so, whom we do not know and whom we know but do not like to mention? What do you think of those who cling to those people? Are they not more misguided than those who cling to the prophets? Yes, indeed. But, my brothers...
