The Shaykh : He said: "And we believe that all the messengers are human beings", meaning they are not angels. "Created", meaning they are not lords. And if it were not for the mercy of Allah toward us, He would not have sent the messengers. When they said: [Al-Furqan 25:7] What did Allah say? He said: [Al-An'am 6:9] So the problem returns, because it is not possible to send an angel to humans. If those on earth were angels, the matter would be as Allah the Exalted said: [Al-Isra 17:95] What? [Al-Isra 17:95] But those who walk on the earth with security are humans. So wisdom and mercy dictate that only humans be sent to them.
So the prophets are humans, not what? Not angels. And it is not fitting for divine wisdom and mercy that any of the angels be sent down to these humans. Good. They are created beings, yes. "Created" means they are not creators, but rather they are created beings who have a Lord. Yes.
"They do not possess any of the attributes of Lordship". The attributes of Lordship belonging to the Lord of the worlds are not possessed by the prophets or anyone else; they belong to Allah alone. Even a man said to the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him): "What Allah wills and what you will." He rejected this from him and said to him:Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah 18:1391 So he rejected "What Allah wills and what you will" from him and guided him to the correct phrase, which is "What Allah wills alone."
"Allah the Exalted said regarding Noah, who was the first of them:[Hud 11:31]". [Al-An'am 6:50] Meaning, from whom? His people. [Al-An'am 6:50] That is, the treasuries of His provision and His mercy are not with me; they are with Allah alone. He is the One who provides.
[Al-An'am 6:50] And only Allah has knowledge of the unseen. Allah the Exalted said: [Al-Jinn 72:26-27] Yes.
[Hud 11:31] Why did he not say "I am not an angel"? Because that is known; everyone knows that Noah is a human being, not an angel. But he says: Meaning: I do not claim to be an angel.
And he said regarding Muhammad, who was the last of them. "And He commanded Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), who was the last of them, to say:[Al-An'am 6:50]" And this phrase is the same phrase that Noah said.
"[Al-An'am 6:50]" Likewise, "[Al-An'am 6:50]" the same thing. Allah commanded him to say this. Did he say it?
The student: Yes.
The Shaykh : Do you bear witness?
The student: Yes.
The Shaykh : Yes, without doubt. The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) was the most worshipful of people toward Allah and the most obedient to Him, so he must have said that.
So the word of the messengers, the first and the last, agreed on these phrases: that they do not know the unseen, that they do not have the treasuries of Allah, and that they are not angels.
And he said: "And to say - meaning Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) - :[Al-A'raf 7:188]".
[Al-A'raf 7:188] Meaning: I do not possess the ability to benefit myself or harm myself. [Al-An'am 6:128] Otherwise, here it appears to be a disconnected exception, meaning: but whatever benefit or harm Allah wills to occur, it occurs. The meaning is not "I do not possess except what Allah wills for me to possess." No, it appears to be disconnected, and it is permissible for it to be connected, but the intent is that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) does not possess the ability to benefit or harm himself.
So what is your opinion if it were said: He does not possess the ability for himself, but he possesses it for others?
We say: This is even further from the truth. One who does not possess the ability to benefit or harm himself, his inability to benefit or harm others is even more certain, without doubt.
Be patient, my brother, there is no question.
Say, yes,[Al-A'raf 7:188]. What?
The student: ...
The Shaykh : How? He commanded him to say.
The student: ...
The Shaykh : No, no, it does not harm. We took part of the verse.
Like his saying, regarding the last of them, to say:[Hud 11:31] There is nothing in it.
"And He commanded him to say:[Al-Jinn 72:21] Harm in your bodies, or guidance in your minds and your conduct. I do not possess this. [Al-Jinn 72:22] That is, no one can prevent me from Allah if He intends evil for me. [Al-Jinn 72:22] .
Who is the Messenger saying this to? To the entire Ummah.
And it is amazing that some people claimed to love the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) and implicitly lied to him in his saying:[Al-Jinn 72:21] So they began to call upon the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), calling upon the Messenger to bring them good and ward off evil from them. And they said this is part of his exaltation, this is part of their love for him. And when they were forbidden from doing that, they said to the one forbidding them: You hate the Messenger, you diminish the Messenger, and the like of that. So which group is more deserving of being right? The one who denies it. As for the one who affirms it, he is the most hostile to the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), because he lied to him and fell into what he forbade, where he said: But he refused except to exaggerate regarding the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him).
So we understand now. What is the function of the messengers if these attributes are removed from them?[Ali 'Imran 3:20] Only [Ali 'Imran 3:15]. [Al-Kahf 18:110]. So their function is to convey the message, to convey what was revealed to them. As for benefiting people or harming them, no.
But a person resembling the common people says: The Messenger benefited me, he guided me to good, he explained good to me, he warned me of evil, and he explained the paths of evil to me, so he benefited me. What is the answer?
We say: This is for the Messenger and for others, even scholars do the same. But does the Messenger possess the ability to make you successful in finding guidance? He does not possess it. And this is the crux of the matter: the Messenger does not possess it. As for conveying the message, he possesses that, just like others, even scholars possess that thing. But does he possess the ability to guide you and make you successful? No. He was not able to guide his uncle who defended him and fought desperately to defend him. He did not possess the ability to benefit him, and he was calling him at his death in the most difficult of circumstances.Sahih al-Bukhari 6681 So the Messenger was unable to do that, he was unable. The last thing Abu Talib said was: "He is upon the religion of 'Abd al-Muttalib".
Why was there not sent down to him an angel
