The Shaykh : And the legal and faith-based rule in the event of disagreement is that we return to whom? To Allah and His Messenger.
And if you disagree over anything, refer it to Allah and the Messenger, if you should believe in Allah and the Last Day. That is the best [way] and best in result. فإن تنازعتم في شيء فردوه إلى الله والرسول إن كنتم تؤمنون بالله واليوم الآخر ذلك خير وأحسن تأويلاً
[An-Nisa 4:59]
And whatever you differ over, its judgment is to be referred to Allah. And since this is the obligatory duty of faith, it is obligatory for us to weigh the statements of the scholars by the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him). So, if the Book and the Sunnah support a statement, his saying is accepted; and if the Book and the Sunnah do not support it, his saying is not accepted, it is considered as coming from its speaker, and it is not cited as an argument against the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him).
