The questioner : That he leaves his work daily when the time for prayer arrives to go to the mosque, and the mosque is about ten or one kilometer away.

The Shaykh : Yes.

The questioner : And he does this on foot, despite there being a mosque in the workplace. Will this walking be recorded for me? I ask for your guidance.

The Shaykh : A person whose work is measured by time is entitled to all of that time for the work, and it is not permissible for him to neglect any part of this time. If there is a mosque in the place where he works where the congregation is held, it is not permissible for him to go out to a distant mosque; rather, it is obligatory for him to pray with the congregation in this mosque. Because if he goes to a distant place, he loses from his work an amount equal to that distance. And as I said, a person who works in a job measured by time has all of his time owed to that work, and it is not permissible for him to be negligent in any of it. This is based on the saying of Allah the Exalted:
O you who have believed, fulfill [all] contracts. يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ ءامَنُوا أَوْفُوا بِالْعُقُودِ
[Al-Ma'idah 5:1]
and His saying the Exalted:
And fulfill [every] commitment. Indeed, the commitment is ever [that about which one will be] questioned. وَأَوْفُوا بِالْعَهْدِ إِنَّ الْعَهْدَ كَانَ مَسْؤولًا
[Al-Isra 17:34]
And you have entered into an agreement with the owner of this work that you are committed to all the time in which your work is measured. Yes.

The questioner : May Allah reward you. This listener, Humaid 'Iyadah al-Shamri, says: I would like to pose this question to you, O honorable Shaykh.
