Is zakah obligatory on money set aside for marriage or for building a house, for example?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Comment on the previous question: Many people nowadays say, "If I have money that I am saving for marriage, is there zakah on it?" And some people say, "I am saving money to build a house; is there zakah on this?" The answer is yes, there is zakah on it, provided it reaches the nisab and a lunar year has passed over it. This is because it is not required that money be intended for trade, nor that it have a specific purpose. Whenever money is found—whether gold, silver, or anything equivalent to them—zakah is obligatory on it in all cases.
