The Qur'an specifies a period of four months for a husband's absence from his wife, but I am contracted here and have no leave until a year has passed, and it may increase depending on circumstances

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : The Qur'an specifies a period of four months for a husband's absence from his wife, but I am contracted here and have no leave until a year has passed, and it may increase depending on work circumstances. What is the ruling?

The Shaykh : Yes, first, the questioner's statement that the Qur'an specified the husband's absence from his wife as four months—in which verse is this specification? Oh, people, answer. Yes.
The student: Nothing has been reported regarding a specific limit.

The Shaykh : Good, well done. We tell the questioner that there is no specification in the Noble Qur'an of the husband's absence from his wife as four months. Rather, what was reported is the specification for those who take an oath to abstain from their wives, which is when a man swears that he will not have intercourse with his wife. So Allah set four months for him, and He the Exalted said:
For those who swear not to have sexual relations with their wives is a waiting time of four months للذين يؤلون من نسائهم تربص أربعة أشهر
[Al-Baqarah 2:226]
As for the husband's absence from his wife, if she has consented to his absence, then it does not harm him if he is absent for four months, six months, a year, or two years, provided that his wife is in a safe country. If the wife is in a safe country and consents to her husband's absence to seek a livelihood, then there is no blame on him, even if he remains for months. However, if she is in a country that is not safe, then it is not permissible for him to travel and leave her in a country that is not safe. And if she is in a safe country but does not consent to his absence for more than four months or six months, as required by the ruling of the ruler, then it is not permissible for him, and he must treat his wife with kindness. Yes.
