Zakat al-Fitr.
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : As for Zakat al-Fitr, it is obligatory upon every Muslim, male and female, young and old, free and slave. As for the fetus in the mother's womb, if it is paid on its behalf, that is good. If it is not paid on its behalf, there is no harm. This charity must reach its recipient before the festival prayer. If it is delayed beyond that, it is not accepted. This charity must be in the form of food, not in dirhams. If it is paid in dirhams, it is not accepted. This charity is to be paid in the country where the sun sets on the night of the festival while the person is there, even if it is not his original home. So if a person is from Madinah and the sun sets on the night of the festival while he is in Makkah, he pays Zakat al-Fitr in Makkah. And if he is from Makkah and the sun sets on the night of the festival in Madinah, he pays it in Madinah. However, if it is assumed that he is from Madinah and the sun sets on him in Makkah, but he does not know the poor there, and he asks his family to pay it on his behalf while he is in Madinah, there is no harm, because this is a dire necessity.
