A man afflicted with a sinus disease where some blood flows into his stomach and some he expels from his mouth while fasting, and he finds no hardship in his fast; is his fast valid?

The questioner : He says:The questioner : A man was afflicted with a sinus disease, and some blood began to flow into his stomach, while he expels the rest from his mouth while fasting. He finds no hardship in his fast. Is his fast valid if he fasts?

The Shaykh : Yes. If a person has bleeding from his nose, and some of the blood flows into his stomach while some comes out, he does not break his fast by it, because what flows into his stomach does so without his choice, and what comes out does not harm him. I would like to point out now the issue of phlegm and mucus, for some of those who fasting strain themselves and make it difficult for themselves. You find that when he feels it at the back of his throat, he tries to expel it, and this is a mistake. This is because phlegm or mucus does not break the fast of the one who is fasting unless it reaches his mouth—reaches his mouth—and then he swallows it. In that case, he breaks his fast according to some scholars, and according to some scholars he does not break his fast even then. As for what is in his throat and flows into his stomach, he does not break his fast by it, even if he feels it. Therefore, a person should not exhaust himself by trying to expel this harm from his throat. Yes.
