The questioner : The questioner says, O honorable Shaykh, may Allah reward you with good, we have some questions about zakah that we are confused about, so we do not know to whom we should give it: is it only to those who are eligible, or to those who...

The Shaykh : Who?

The questioner : He says, we have some questions about zakah that we are confused about, so we do not know to whom we should give it: is it only to those who are eligible, or to those who ask for it? And these questions are: First: Is it permissible to give zakah to the maids who work in homes?

The Shaykh : Yes, it is permissible for a person to give his zakah to a male or female servant if he knows that they are among those eligible for zakah, or if he is convinced that they are. How is that? If this male or female servant has a family in their country who are poor, then he may give them from the zakah for the sake of that family. But if they do not have a family, it is well known that the male or female servant is self-sufficient with the wage they are given.
