The Shaykh : What?

The questioner : They make it sleep

The Shaykh : What?

The questioner : They sleep, meaning

The Shaykh : ...

The questioner : Yes, they make it sleep so that they can strive in standing the nights in prayer, especially in these nights where the night is long, so to strengthen themselves for that, they sleep most of the day. Does this contradict the Sunnah of Allah for people in His saying, the Exalted:
(10) And made the night as clothing (11) And made the day for livelihood وجعلنا الليل لباسا وجعلنا النهار معاشا
[An-Naba 78:10-11]
And are they rewarded for this sleep, even if it is long, while they may sleep most of the day?

The Shaykh : Those who stand in the night and sleep in the day, neglecting the obligatory prayers, are undoubtedly in error; the obligatory prayers are more important. As for those who stand in the night and sleep in the day but do not neglect the obligatory prayers, there is no blame on them for that. However, it is not befitting for a person to spend all his time in sleep, because these are a few days, ten days. Rather, it is better to keep the night alive with worship, prayer, and recitation, and likewise the day. In fact, some of the Salaf made their day like their night in striving in worship. But some people may not be able to bear limiting their sleep to a few hours. So if he assists himself in that, meaning in tahajjud, by sleeping during the day, there is no blame in it, on the condition that he does not waste the obligatory. Yes.
