Explanation of how one harms Allah the Exalted.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : And how does one harm Allah? One harms Allah by describing Him with what is not befitting of Him. One harms Allah by cursing Him, mocking Him, and ridiculing Him. So, if someone describes Allah (Mighty and Majestic) as not being All-Hearing, All-Seeing, Mighty, Wise, or Merciful, or the like of the attributes of perfection by which Allah described Himself, then this is a harm to Allah. And if someone objects to Allah in His Shari'ah or His divine decree, then that is a harm to Allah. For this reason, the authentic hadith came that Allah the Exalted said:
The son of Adam injures me by abusing time, whereas I am time. Authority is in my hand. I alternate the night and the day يؤذيني ابن آدم يسب الدّهر وأنا الدّهر بيدي الأمر أقلب الليل والنهار
Sunan Abi Dawud 5274Sahih (Al-Albani)
An example of cursing time is to say, "This is a bad year," "This is a bad season," or the like of what indicates cursing the divine decree; then that is a harm to Allah (Mighty and Majestic). And more severe than that is cursing the religion, mocking it, raising doubts about it, and describing it as contradictory; for this is more severe than cursing time. For this reason, Allah (Mighty and Majestic) said:
(65) And if you ask them, they will surely say, "We were only conversing and playing." Say, "Is it Allah and His verses and His Messenger that you were mocking?" (66) Make no excuse; you have disbelieved after your belief. If We pardon one faction of you - We will punish another faction because they were criminals.
[At-Tawbah 9:65-66]
